Claremont 76

We’ve already written about the demise of the much-loved Claremont 76 service station. With more than 150,000 miles on my car, I had come to rely on John and his crew of mechanics to keep me safe and on the road. One of the frustrations of the sudden move was that a prominent sign encouraged passersby to follow Claremont 76 at their new location, but the web address didn’t work.

Now it does, and I’m delighted that I can keep my car in trusted, capable hands. It will mean hauling over to Grand Avenue on the Piedmont/Oakland border, but I’m not sure my car is ready for a new relationship.

If I tire of the journey, are there other Berkeley-based mechanics that people trust?

  1. I did follow them over to the new location. Even though it’s not quite as convenient as it was, I trust this garage with the 3 cars in my household. These guys do great work – always on time and on budget

  2. I’m glad those guys are still in business albeit in Oakland. We’re down to Cook’s Collision for auto repair in Elmwood/Rockridge. I’m not excited about the impending Safeway expansion of mediocre foodstuffs.
