As reported on Berkeleyside in October, Black Oak Books is set to re-open this week after closing its Shattuck Avenue store six months ago.
The new location is 2618 San Pablo Avenue in a space occupied by Rountree’s nightclub, and the opening is planned for this Thursday at 11:00 am.
The East Bay Express reports on the store’s changing fortunes here.
They’re open today [Friday 18th of December] – just barely – lots of partly empty shelves. But Black Oak is back!
Here’s the pic.

I walked by Black Oak Books this morning. Looking through the open front door it looked as if there were people inside stocking the shelves.
I must say though that the proprietor didn’t waste a penny on improving the exterior of the store. Let’s hope that all the money went into the content.
(Q for the admin: Can I post a pic on this site?)
I drove by this location yesterday and I have real doubts that it will be open tomorrow! Although they have a lovely new ‘Books’ sign up, the windows are still just gaping holes… anyone know if they opening is still scheduled for tomorrow?
I hope that they install a shrine to Wes Robinson’s Ruthie’s Inn (Rountrees’ previous incarnation), home to many an East Bay punk rock memory.
