Friends of Kyle Strang, one of two Berkeley teens killed Wednesday in an auto accident, are planning to hold a candlelight vigil tonight in his honor.
A post on a new Facebook page set up to commemorate Strang, 16, and Prentice T. Gray, 19, who was also killed in the crash, asks people to wear bright colors and bring a candle at 7:30 pm to the Acton Street block where Strang’s mother lives.
There will be a funeral for Strang at 1 pm Sunday at Temple Emanu-el on Lake Street in San Francisco. After his burial, friends are expected to hold another vigil outside his father’s house on Derby near Acton. Since that is the same block where Prentice Gray lived with his mother, Irma, and younger sister, the vigil will also be for him.
Strang’s father, Craig Strang, is the associate director of the Lawrence Hall of Science. His mother is Sharleen Harty.
Berkeley High, where Strang was a junior and Gray a recent graduate, sent out an email to the community on Friday alerting it of the two young men’s death. The school is closed this week for spring break. There have been hundreds of comments left on the RIP Facebook page. A sampler follows:
“Man yall going to be missed but never forgotten. you were my boys till the end. You may not be here with us walking and all but you forever live in our minds, body and soul. 100.”
“This breaks my heart. All my love goes out to your families. your both looking down upon us from the clouds, and will forever be missed.”
“RIP Prentice and Kyle. To the family and loved ones of these two young men my prayers go out to you for peace and comfort …. Their lives have left an impression on many Love and Blessings to you all.”
UPDATE 4/3/10 From Berkeley High: “All are welcome to join a reception at the Strang’s home in Berkeley, 1324
