Emily Kassier, who attended Berkeley High School and was a first-year student studying literature at Bennington College in Vermont, was found dead in her dorm Thursday.

The cause of her death is unknown. The Bennington Banner reported that the police are conducting an investigation to determine if alcohol, or an on-campus party they believe Kassier attended, were contributing factors. Her family was informed Thursday morning.

Berkeley High, from where the 18-year-old Kassier graduated last year, and where she worked as an assistant teacher, released a statement by email headed “Sad News”. It reads: “It is with great sadness we report the sudden death of Emily Kassier BHS class of 2010.  Emily who was attending Bennington College in Vermont suffered a seizure.”
